New Alabama residents must obtain an Alabama driver’s license within 30 days of entering the state. Driver’s licenses are available from the driver’s license examiner’s office listed below.

If you do not have a valid out-of-state license, you will be required to take an eye test, a written exam, and a road test. The cost of a new license/renewal for Alabama state residents is $36.25. If you have a valid out of-state license, you will only be required to take the eye exam. The cost for an out-of-state transfer is $5, in addition to $36.25 for a new license. (NOTE: These requirements are for a regular Class D license only.)
